Flyback Practice

Practicing to attempt proper “Flyback”

One of my goals for acro is to master “twister” which is Helico to Helico.

I know it is a stupid idea, but I’m dreaming to do Acro-Cross Country someday.

Once I reached the Cloud base if I need to wait for other pilots to climb up, or felt it is not the right moment to transit forward,

Spend time having fun doing acro like helico or SAT, then climb up again, then transit forward when it is the right moment.

Sounds Crazy? I think it would be so much FUN!!!!

Back to subject, I am still struggling to attempt proper “Flyback”

I think one of the reasons is the Characteristics of my glider Buteo XC.

The center part of the glider is very difficult to stall. Meaning that it is a very stable and safe glider to fly.

On the other hand, it is very difficult to stall the glider by keeping it open straight and then putting it into flyback.

I’ve been trying several ways to stall the glider.

For example, spread my hand as much as I can, Pulling the Break slowly, double break input, or triple break input.

But none of them didn’t work.

Shun advised me to pull harder for the second break input so I could force to stall the center part of the glider.

I tried many times for that, and yes, it can stall the glider straight. But it takes back the glider too much when it stalls.

It is scary and didn’t feel it was not smooth flyback at that moment.

I told them about it and had more conversations about it.

We came up with an idea for too much takeback.

Putting some breaks and slowing down the glider a little bit before attempting the first pull might improve the problem.

So I tried this time and the result is in the Video. Big improvement!

My flyback is still a little unstable, but there is some improvement with each practice.

The next objective is to get more used to it and make it more accurate.

When I get confident with this Glider, I will switch it to Cure2 (EN-C glider)

Hopefully, I get confident enough to flyback with Cure2 and pod harness in this Winter.

So I can practice both XC/Race and acro in one flight!!
